5/ Valentine's Day.
This struggling relationship is saved - by a middle 8 that reminds the couple that they've been drifting apart.
Andy Morgan laid down a lovely rhythm track on this, (just what a jangly break up/make up song needs) and Gareth Selfe proves he can also do subtle - with lush supporting guitar parts, some beautifully restrained choir harmonies, plus his brainwave of adding a church bells outro. I'm playing the handmade fretless bass, that Gareth made for me, with some octave effect, to help it drive.
Lyrics: Valentine's Day.
I had all the time, in the world
To share with you
Slipped through my fingers way too soon
I had all the money, in the world
To share with you
Slipped through my fingers way too soon
Could we be broken, could we be
I picked all the flowers - from the gravestones of the free
You couldn’t bear - to look at me
I sent all the postcards - from those places dear to you
You couldn’t bear - to read them through
Could we be broken, could we be
Could we be broken, you and me
Could we be broken, what do you say?
Could we be broken, this Valentine’s Day.
When the whole world was our oyster
Where Eros knows your name
And when the gods of love - electrified the stars above
When will - you feel - the same?
Could we be… could we be closer
Could we be closer, could we be
Could we be closer, you and me
Could we be closer, what do you say?
Could we be closer, this Valentine’s Day.
