7/ Rumour Mill
A simple pop-rock song, (exploring the dangerous, divisive methods some governments have used to control their populations. Neighbours, colleagues, friends and relatives are encouraged through fear and suspicion to spy on their fellow citizens. (Stand up McCarthy-era America, Nazi Germany and China).
I really enjoyed the process of taking this song from it's original simple acoustic guitar format, to the full band sound, aided by Dino's rhythmic punctuation and Gareth's harmony vocal embelishments.
Lyrics: Rumour Mill.
There’s too many people
With their ears to the ground - following me
Gone are the days when you
Say what you want & say what you mean
On - the rumour mill, rumour mill
The man on the moon has got his
Beady little eye - trained on you
And the girl next door was always
Sweet with the law, but what can you do?
On - the rumour mill, rumour mill
It won’t set you free, won’t set you free
When we're drowning, we’re all drowning, hey hey
I’ve got nothing, on you baby
You’ve got to leave me alone
Feeling lonely? Don’t look to me!
You’re gonna drag us all down
& we're drowning, we’re all drowning…
In the rumour mill, rumour mill
It won’t set you free, won’t set you free
In the rumour mill, rumour mill
It won’t set you free, just whisper to me
Whisper to me - yeah, whisper to me yeah yeah.
