8/ This Old Town
The resignation of ill-fated attempts to leave your home town.
I managed to persuade Chris Webb out of early retirement to play drums on the is track. I'm glad I did, his part fitted perfectly with the simple arrangement I wanted for this track. I was then subsequently persuaded to dress up as an alter-ego character, (by video team Gareth Selfe & Johnny Campbell) for the accompanying video.
Lyrics: This Old Town.
I don’t know why I do it
I shouldn’t go so far
I set off on a journey
And end up sitting, in a bar, in a bar
Closer to home
I’m heading for the coastline
I’m looking from the train
I’m running out the rope now
It’s gonna - pull me home again, home again
It’s time to stay put
I love this, I love this old town
Sun sets in the distance
Lines run down the road
Leading to a place where
I could never, ever go, never go
Signs just read no, just say no
I love this, I love this old town
I love this, I really love this,
I love this old town…
